CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Freshman infielder Michael Massey doubled twice and drove in four runs Saturday to lead the Orange team to a 9-2 win in the Orange and Blue World Series finale. The Orange swept the Blue in the three-game series.
Junior Sean Leland held the Blue hitless in four innings of work with three strikeouts, as the Orange built a 9-0 lead by the fifth inning. Mark Skonieczny drove in three runs with a double and a single and Bren Spillane added two RBIs.
Spillane was the series MVP with three homers in Game 1 and a walk-off single in Game 2.
The Orange and Blue World Series concluded the Fighting Illini's fall schedule. Illinois opens the regular season Feb. 17 against Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Beaumont, Texas.
