CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The No. 17 Illinois women's gymnastics team fell to No. 3 Michigan 196.900-195.150 Friday night inside Huff Hall. Competing for the first time at home this season, the Illini garnered two event titles and five (including all-around) top-three finishes. Fans can watch the tape-delayed meet on Big Ten Network Saturday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. CT.

"There were bright spots, but as a whole, we made too many mistakes," head coach Kim Landrus said. "A team with this talent has to find a way to get the job done.  We have four days of practice this week and I fully expect them to focus on the things that could have gone better today. The pieces are there, but those pieces only are good if we can put them all together."

Mary Jane Horth shared an event title on bars with a 9.900 and finished third in the all-around with a season best 39.275. Giana O'Connor also won an event by tying her career high on floor (9.925).

Illinois started the meet on vault, totaling a 48.850. O'Connor led with a season best 9.850, followed by Buchanan and Horth who both scored a 9.775. Foley (9.750) and LeDuc (9.700) also added to the team total.

On bars in the second rotation, Illinois totaled a 48.275. Horth scored a 9.900, tying her season best. In her first event of the season, Sarah Lyons scored a 9.800. O'Connor (9.775), Kato (9.675) and LeDuc (9.125) also scored on the event.

On the third rotation, the Illini totaled a 48.825 on beam. Sunny Kato led with a 9.875 that placed third. LeDuc followed with a 9.825. Bridget Hodan scored her third-consecutive 9.800 of the season. Illinois also counted scores from Horth (9.750) and O'Connor (9.575).
