After spliting the Border Battle this past weekend against Missouri and Iowa, Head Coach Mike Turk handed out the first round of 2016 weekly team awards. These five awards will be given out weekly to those whom the coaching staff deems as excelling in sprints, field events, distance events, as well as awards for best rookie/newcomer and a 'special award' that can be a given out for a variety of reasons.
Week 1's Recipients

Mo Maat placed top-two in the long jump, 60m, and 200m at the Border Battle, including his 6.76 time in the 60m dash that moved him into 7th-place on Illinois' all-time list.

Michael Hyc won the opening-weekend's weight throw with a personal-best 17.95m mark to win the event, followed by a runner-up finish in the shot put later in the day.

Garrett Lee won the distance award after winning the one-mile run on Saturday with a time of 4:13.54.

Devin Quinn opened up his Illini career with two top-four finishes in the 60m and 200m, falling just behind teammate Mo Maat in the 60m.


Jereme Atchison and George Wayda share the award this week after both set personal-record times in their respective events. Atchison set a personal-record time in the 3,000m with a time of 8:36.47, while Wayda set a personal-best high jump mark of 1.91m on Saturday.
