KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After the first day of action of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships hosted in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Illinois women's golf team sits in eighth place. The Fighting Illini posted team scores of 292 and 294 in the first two rounds, respectively, from the Cherokee Country Club, a par-71 venue.
Illinois is led by a trio of players, each sporting +4 readings after the opening day of play. Among the three golfers are Stephanie Miller, Dana Gattone and Chayanid Prapassarangkul. The +4 efforts puts the UI golfers in a share of the 20th spot individually. Miller opened the tournament with a one-over par score of 72, while Gattone carded a 73 and Prapassarangkul added a mark of 74. In round two, Miller shot a 74, Gattone posted another 73 and Prapassarangkul carded a 72.
Grace Park is tied for a share of 37th place after two rounds of play from the Tennessee-hosted event. Park carded rounds of 73 and 75, respectively, for a six-over par reading. Freshman Bing Singhsumalee opened play with a round of 74 and followed up with a second round score of 77 to sit in a share of 54th place overnight.
The final round of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships will tee off at 7:30 am CT, with a shotgun start.
