ROSEMONT, Ill. - Fighting Illini women's track & field high jumper Kandie Bloch-Jones has been named the Field Athlete of the Week for Big Ten Women's Outdoor Track & Field, it was announced today. She is the second Illini to be win the conference award during the 2015 outdoor season, joining Stephanie Richartz who was recognized on March 25.
Bloch-Jones won the women's high jump competition at Purdue's Ranking/Poehlein Invitational on Saturday, May 2 with a lifetime-best clearance of 1.84m (6' 0.5"). That mark ties her for the third-best leap in the Big Ten this season and is tied for 11th in the NCAA. The clearance is also tied for second on Illinois' all-time list.
In addition to last weekend, Bloch-Jones has won high jump titles at Vanderbilt's Black & Gold Invitational (March 28), Arizona's Jim Click Shootout (April 11) and the Illinois Twilight (April 18). She also recorded top-three finishes at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational (March 21) and the EIU Big Blue Classic (April 4).
This marks the first time in her career that the Argenta-Oreana, Illinois native has been honored by the conference during the outdoor season.
Bloch-Jones and the rest of the Orange and Blue will have a weekend away from competition to prepare for the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships in East Lansing, Michigan on May 15-17.
