ResultsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Fighting Illini women's track and field team wrapped up the regular-season portion of its schedule at Purdue's Rankin/Poehlein Invitational on Saturday. Illinois captured seven titles, 23 top-10 finishes and a number of season-best performances.
A quartet of Orange and Blue runners finished in the top 10 of the 800m run. Nicole Choquette set the pace, breaking the tape in a lifetime-best time of 2:06.70, moving into seventh on Illinois' all-time list. Amanda Duvendack finished third in the race, clocking 2:07.69. Chloe Schmidt (2:12.28) and Lindsey Rakosnik (2:12.52) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Illini also got an event win from Alyssa Schneider in the 1,500m. She crossed the finish line in 4:20.81, setting a new personal-best to move into fifth on Illinois' all-time list. Emma Grimes finished sixth in a season-best time of 4:35.40.
Audrey Blazek was victorious in the 5,000m, breaking the tape in 17:47.69. Britten Petrey won the 3,000m steeplechase in 10:35.83, while teammate Valerie Bobart finished third in 11:32.37.
In the field, Illinois added three more event titles to its total. Kandie Bloch-Jones was the victor in the high jump, clearing a career-best mark of 1.84m (6' 0.50") to move into a tie for second on Illinois' top-10 list.
The pole vault featured three Illini in the top five. Stephanie Richartz won the event for the third consecutive meet, clearing 4.21m (13' 9.75"). Jennifer DeBellis earned runner-up status with a clearance of 4.06m (13' 3.75"), her third straight week of setting a personal-best. Sara McKeeman also recorded a lifetime-best clearance of 3.96m (12' 11.75") to finish fourth.
Mariah Smith earned the final Illini victory of the day, taking the discus throw with a season-best performance of 50.40m (165' 4"). Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp finished third in the event with a toss 48.69m (159' 9").
Kymbriona Taylor recorded two top-10 finishes for the Illini, taking fifth in the 100m (12.15) and ninth in the 200m (24.81). Pedrya Seymour also had a pair of top-10 performances, finishing eighth in the 200m (24.75) and seventh in the 400m (57.83).
Breeana Coleman recorded a season-best time of 13.38 in the 100m hurdles to finish third. In the 400m hurdles, Jasmine Berry (1:03.49) and Miranda Marry (1:03.75) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
The 4x400m relay team of Marry, Choquette, Berry and Duvendack closed out the day with a second-place finish, crossing the finish line in 3:46.24.
The Illini will now have a week off from competition before traveling to East Lansing, Michigan from May 15-17 for the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
