The University of Illinois Chapter of Uplifting Athletes held its annual Lift For Life event Friday night at Memorial Stadium. The event raised over $16,000 toward its mission of raising awareness and research dollars for rare disease acoustic neuroma, which ended the playing career of former Illini offensive lineman Andrew Carter. Proceeds will benefit the Acoustic Neuroma Association.

In the fourth Lift For Life at Illinois, and the Fighting Illini football team continued its tradition of a team competition with eight squads going head-to-head all to earn the right to wear the coveted winning Lift For Life T-Shirt. The yellow team, consisting of Desmond Cain, Andrew Davis, Trenard Davis, Christian DiLauro, Zach Hirth, Julian Hylton, Paul James III, Ted Karras, Patrick Nelson, Dawuane Smoot, Eaton Spence, LaKeith Walls and Taylor Zalewski won the team competition, which means champion t-shirts and braggin' rights in the weight room.
In four years of hosting Lift for Life, the Fighting Illini have raised nearly $40,000 for research to support the Acoustic Neuroma community. Fans can still donate to the cause now at the Uplifting Athletes Fundraising Page.
