CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - University of Illinois redshirt-senior Reid Roper earned Capital One second-team Academic All-America® honors, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Roper, who collected the laurel for the first time in his career, is the sixth Illinois baseball player in program history to be named an Academic All-American and first since Jason Anderson in 2000.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Roper, who is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, boasts a 3.55 GPA as an elementary education major. He has started at second base for the past four years at Illinois and has served as the team's closer, picking up 11 career saves, which is tied for eighth in school history.

During the 2015 season, Roper is hitting .302 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI, helping the Illini to the 2015 Big Ten regular-season championship and their first-ever Super Regional after winning the NCAA Champaign Regional. The Harrisburg, Illinois, native also boasts a team-high 40 walks and four triples along with tallying a save in four appearances out of the bullpen.
