INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team has concluded play at the 2015 Big Ten Championships with a ninth place finish after three rounds of play from The Fort Golf Course in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Fighting Illini carded team rounds of 302-303-302 for a total of 907 for the single-digit place finish.
Illinois was led by freshman Chayanid Prapassarangkul who finished in a tie for 16th individually. Prapassarangkul carded rounds of 72-78-71 to finish +5 at 221. The freshman also posted eight birdies, four in both the first and last rounds.
"Jan had a very solid finish today; tied for 16th in her first Big Ten Tournament, that's very promising," shared head coach Renee Slone.
Finishing second for the Illini was Grace Park who finished with a share of 36th place. Park turned in a line of 79-71-77 for a +11 debut at the Big Ten Championships. Stephanie Miller posted a total that was just one stroke higher, coming in at 228 (+12) for a share of 41st place. The sophomore carded rounds of 75-76-77, respectively. Dana Gattone was the fourth contributor for the Illinois team score in the final round with a 77 to go along with her previous rounds of 77 and 79. Gattone finished with a share of 60th place at 233 (+17).
"It's certainly nice to see those sub-par rounds, that's a positive sign for the team," Slone stated.
Pimploy Thirati turned in a +19 (235) showing at the event. The senior carded rounds of 78-78-79 for 65th on the individual board. Emily Joers finished with a 252 (+36) after carding rounds of 88-81-83.
For the second year in a row, there was a tie for the top-team spot at the Big Ten Championships. Northwestern and Ohio State shared the honors after posting team scores of 863 (-1). Purdue took the bronze with an 872 (+8) showing. Michigan State (878), Michigan (882), Wisconsin (895), Minnesota (898) and Maryland (899) all filled out the board ahead of the Fighting Illini unit. Illinois took the final single-digit spot on the board with a total score of 907 (+43). Iowa (910), Indiana (911), Penn State (912), Nebraska (917) and Rutgers (926) rounded out the team board.
