Illinois Shares Eighth Spot Entering Final Round of B1G Championships

Prapassarangkul and Park Tied for 26th

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After day two of the Big Ten Women's Golf Championships, and a few appearances by Mother Nature, the Illinois unit shares eighth place with a team carding of 303 in the second round. The Fighting Illini moved up a spot in the team standings from The Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"It was a challenging day with the conditions," stated head coach Renee Slone. "Grace had a great round today and adapted well to the challenge."

Grace Park led the Orange and Blue with a carding of 71. The freshman sank four birdies on the day, including three on the front nine. Park is now tied for 26th individually as she enters the final round of the competition. Also tied for 26th isChayanid Prapassarangkul, who carded a 78 on the day to go along with a 72 to open the event.

Stephanie Miller rests overnight with a share of 32nd place after rounds of 75 and 76 to open the Big Ten Championships. Contributing the fourth score for the Illini on the day was senior Pimploy Thirati, who carded a 78 to match her opening round score. Thirati and Dana Gattone are both tied for 57th entering the final round. Gattone shot a second round mark of 79. Emily Joers carded an 81 and is tied for 83rd.

Ohio State remained atop the leaderboard after the second day of action at -3 overall. Purdue (+2) took over the second spot, while Northwestern dropped to number three (+3). Michigan State (+9) and Michigan (+12) round out the top five spots. Wisconsin still holds sixth place at +17 overall, whereas Maryland jumped into seventh (+25). The Illini and Minnesota are tied for eighth at +29 overall. The bottom of the board reads Nebraska (+31), Iowa (+32), Penn State (+32), Indiana (+35) and Rutgers (+46).

The Illini will tee-off in nine-minute increments beginning at 8:14 a.m. CT from the 10th hole. Joers will lead off followed by Thirati, then Gattone, Miller, Prapassarangkul and Park.

"I am looking forward to the team playing fearlessly with an attacking mindset and putting up at least four strong scores enabling us to make a move up the leaderboard," Slone said.

As a reminder, the event will be aired as a delayed recording on May 6, at 6 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
