Final Results
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - With all three rounds of the Hurricane Invitational in the books, the Illinois women's golf team will return to campus with a share of 10th place. The Illini were led by freshman Chayanid Prapassarangkul who turned in a combined score of 214 (+1) at the event.
"We had a solid start to the tournament," stated head coach Renee Slone. "We made a number of mental errors that were very costly and did not take advantage of the par-fives this week. Jan had a terrific tournament and a great round today to jump up the leaderboard. She made an honest assessment of her fall season and realized the importance of investing significant time into a couple of areas."
Illinois finished with a team score of 892 (+40) as part of the four-way tie for 10th place. Northwestern took the top-spot (859), followed by Miami (865) and Iowa State (868). Louisville and Minnesota rounded out the top-five with team cardings of 873 and 878 respectively. Purdue (881), East Carolina (886), South Florida (889) and Campbell (890) filled up the single digit spots. The four-way tie for 10th place included Middle Tennessee State, Daytona State, Illinois and Michigan all shooting a combined 892. Kennesaw State (893), Penn State (902) and Ole Miss (932) rounded out the field.
Prapassarangkul turned in rounds of 72-73-69 (214, +1) for a share of second place, her best individual finish at Illinois. Stephanie Miller finished tied for 44th with rounds of 70-75-79 for a final reading of 224. Competing individually, Pimploy Thirati was the next highest Illini finisher coming in for a tie at 56th after producing rounds of 77-76-74 (227). Emily Joers tied for 62nd, along with teammate Grace Park after rounds of 75-78-76 (229) and 78-76-75 (229) respectively. Dana Gattone finished with a reading of 237 (74-82-71) for the 82nd spot.
Illinois freshman, Prapassarangkul shared the second individual spot with three other competitors hailing from Miami, Iowa State and Northwestern. Tiffany Chan of Daytona State took the individual title with a 212 (-1) outing.
As a team, Illinois carded 158 holes at par on the tournament in addition to 27 holes at one-under par. Prapassarangkul was responsible for nine Illini birdies and even-par holes.
The Illini will return to action on Monday, March 23 when they begin the two-day Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, South Carolina.
