IOWA City, Iowa – Fighting Illini men's tennis sophomore Toshiki Matsuya and freshman Asher Hirsch bowed out in the round of 16 at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Third-seeded Matsuya fell to No. 14 seed Kevin Wong (Michigan) 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 and Hirsch fell to fourth-seeded Toby Boyer (NEB) 6-3, 7-6 Sunday afternoon at Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Iowa.

Matsuya and Hirsch made the farthest runs by Illini in the main draw. No. 7 seed Alex Jesse fell in the round of 32 and freshmen Pengxuan Jiang fell in the opening round of the main draw. Jesse and Jiang both grabbed victories in consolation matches.

In doubles, No. 2 seed Jesse and Matsuya reached the semifinals. The Illini duo was knocked out by Lutschaunig/Kohan (PSU) in a tiebreak.

The semi-finals and finals of singles main draw of the conference indoor championships will take place Monday.
