BOERNE, Texas – With the first round of play in the books from the Jim West Challenge, the Illinois women's golf team sits just outside of the top 10 after turning in a 304 team score. The Fighting Illini opened play starting from the 10th hole late this morning at the Tapatio Springs Resort.
Bing Singhsumalee led UI with a one-under par carding of 71 in the opening round, for her third sub-par frame on the young season. The freshman also posted four birdies in the round and sits tied for seventh individually heading into the second day of play. Chayanid Prapassarangkul scored a 74 (+2) in the round and is tied for 26th
Grace Park turned in a 78 and sits in a share of 54th heading into round two of action. Stephanie Miller and Dana Gattone are tied for 62nd currently, after posting opening rounds of 81.
On the team board, Texas A&M and Kent State share the top spot overnight at three-under pair. Tied for third place are Florida State and Texas Tech. Miami ranks fifth, followed by Houston, Texas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Missouri to round out the top 10 teams. Illinois sits in 11th at 304, followed by Texas State and UTSA.
Round two action will open with Gattone leading off at 9:50 a.m. Following Gattone, the order to open play with be Miller, Park, Prapassanrangkul and Singhsumalee in 10-minute intervals.
