OFCC Saturday Results
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Singles play took place on Saturday at Olympia Fields Country Club and due to rain some action was forced to take place on the indoor courts. The Illinois men's tennis team continued their strong start to the fall season going 6-2 on Day two of the Fighting Illini Invitational.
Both No. 44 Tim Kopinski and No. 6 Jared Hiltzik defeated Piotr Lomacki of Miami, who is ranked No. 6 on the ITA Newcomer/Freshman preseason rankings. Kopinski took down Lomacki first with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in the morning round, before Hiltzik followed suit with a 6-0, 6-4 win.
Kopinski then defeated Andrew Watson of Memphis 6-4, 6-3 in his second match of the day. Hiltzik defeated Jerry Lopez of Kentucky in straight sets in the morning session. The two 2014 All-Americans remained undefeated at Olympia Fields, both sporting a 5-0 record.
Rounding out victories for the Orange and Blue were Aleks Vukic's 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win over Thomas Weigel of Memphis and Toshiki Matsuya's 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Notre Dame's Brendon Kempin.
