OFCC Friday Results

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - The Illinois Men's tennis team provided a strong start to their fall season today at Olympia Fields, going 6-1 on Friday. In the morning, Illini doubles teams went 2-1, then in the afternoon, the Orange and Blue swept the singles competition with a 4-0 mark.

No. 6 Jared Hiltzik and No. 44 Tim Kopinski shone bright for the Illini, as the 2014 All-Americans both went 3-0. The duo teamed up in the morning to defeat Glennon/Watson of Memphis, 8-6 in the first round of doubles. In the second round of doubles, Hiltzik/Kopinski took down Gonzalez/Lomacki of Miami, 8-6.

In singles, No. 6 Hiltzik defeated No. 38 Connor Glennon in straights sets. Kopinski also took down a ranked player when he defeated No. 98 Robbie Mudge of North Carolina State in three sets.

Two Illini freshmen also made the trip to Olympia Fields, as Aleks Vukic and Toshiki Matsuya both garnered singles victories in the afternoon after dropping their only doubles match of the morning to Sbacinski/McCoy of Notre Dame, 8-5. Toshiki Matsuya claimed his first collegiate victory in three sets defeating Beck Bond of North Carolina State. Returning to action one week after his run to the semifinals at the Southern Intercollegiate Championship, Vukic continued his early season success in singles by defeating Wyatt McCoy from Notre Dame in three sets.
