Illinois State Invite ResultsNORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois women's cross country team put together an impressive performance at the Illinois State Invite on Friday evening. The Illini won the meet crown with just 33 points, outdistancing runner-up Iowa by 29 points.
“It was a really good meet for us,” said head coach
Scott Jones. “It was another positive step in developing our ability to compete. I was very pleased with our approach and execution. It was a great team performance from top to bottom.”
Alyssa Schneider set the pace for the Illini, taking the individual crown with a time of 17:18. This marks the second competition in a row that Schneider has finished first overall.
Colette Falsey (17:37) and
Amanda Fox (17:47) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Britten Petrey entered the chute fourth for the Illini, stopping the clock at 17:59 for an 11th-place showing.
Hanna Winter was the number-five runner for the Illini, finishing 14th overall in 18:08.
Samantha Lapp (18:21) and
Lindsey Rakosnik (18:32) were the sixth and seventh Illini finishers, finishing 25th and 31st, respectively.
Megan Lemersal (33rd – 18:37),
Kim Seger (45th – 18:55),
Valerie Bobart (47th – 19:00) and
Chloe Schmidt (54th – 19:17) rounded out the Illini runners who competed.
The Orange and Blue will have a week off before heading to the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis, Minn. on Saturday, Sept. 27. The starting gun for the women's race is schedule to go off at 1:10 p.m.
