PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Senior Allison Falkin was named second-team All-Big Ten, the conference announced during the Big Ten Tournament Banquet Thursday night. The award marks the third career All-Conference accolade for Falkin, who garnered first-team recognition in 2012 and 2013.
Falkin, who has been playing at No. 1 for the Illini for 15 of the matches this spring, boasts an 8-10 record this spring. The Roswell, Georgia, native features the same record (8-10) in doubles play. In the fall, Falkin qualified for the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships with her doubles partner Melissa Kopinski.
Freshman Louise Kwong was Illinois’ Sportsmanship Award recipient, given to individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship, ethical behavior and strong academic performance and who have demonstrated good citizenship outside of tennis.
The Illini have produced at least one All-Big Ten honoree in each of the last 14 seasons.
The fifth-seeded Orange and Blue will take on fourth-seeded Purdue tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Illinois.
