MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Fighting Illini women's tennis team fell to No. 14 Alabama 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. One doubles match and three singles matches did not finish, as Alabama clinched the win early on.

"We were knocking on the door to a big win today but that is not enough," said head coach Michelle Dasso. "We need to break through and open the door decisively and with authority."

The Illini had a rough start to the match, with Falkin/Boone falling to Daines/Spielmann 6-0 and Kopinski/Casati following with a loss to Jansen/Routliffe 6-3. Kedzierski/Kwong did not finish their match as Alabama had clinched the doubles point with those two wins.

The Orange and Blue continued to struggle in singles play, where Louise Kwong was handed her first loss of the season (6-3, 6-3). Misia Kedzierski and Jerricka Boone were the only other Illini to finish their matches, falling to Alabama 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively.

"The challenge for my girls is to play more inspired tomorrow," said Dasso. "I still believe there is another level in us."

Illinois will continue play at the Blue Gray Classic on Saturday against either Texas Tech or Yale.
