Each week the Illini in the NFL update provides coverage on how former Fighting Illini football players fared during the previous week. In week 14, Corey Liuget and Akeem Spence again had big games, Jon Asamoah paved the way for a big Matt Ryan passing day and Tavon Wilson stepped up for the Patriots.

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers (@CoreyLiuget) - After tying his career-high in tackles last week, Liuget set a new career high by making 7 tackles against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football, two of them going for a loss. The Chargers lost to New England 23-14.

Jon Asamoah, OL, Atlanta Falcons - Started and protected quarterback Matt Ryan, who threw for a season high 375 yards and four touchdowns, while only being sacked once, on Monday Night Football. The Packers beat the Falcons 43-37.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots (@TavonWilson27) - Participated in the Patriots' 23-14 win over the Chargers and recorded three tackles with one going for a loss.

Akeem Spence, DT, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@AkeemSpence) - Akeem Spence built on his strong performance last week with 4 tackles in the Buccaneers' 34-17 loss to the Lions.

Josh Brent, DL, Dallas Cowboys - Recorded his first two tackles of the season against the Chicago Bears, as Dallas defeated Chicago 41-28.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints (@Pierre_Thomas) - Pierre Thomas accumulated 52 total yards of total offense against the Panthers, but the Saints lost 41-10.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans (@Merci380) - Tallied one tackle in the Texans' 27-13 win over the host Jaguars.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants (@Weatherford5) - Weatherford punted four times for 186 yards, pinning one punt inside the 20, as the Giants routed the Titans 36-7.

Michael Hoomanawanui, TE, New England Patriots (@Hoomanawanui47) - Played, but did not record any stats in the Patriots' 23-14 win over the Chargers.

Justin Staples, LB, Tennessee Titans (@J_Staples94) - Played in his third game since being activated from the practice squad, but did not record any statistics.

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets (@Cumberland85) - Cumberland started for the Jets, but did not record any stats in the Jets' overtime loss to the Vikings.

Brandon Lloyd, WR, San Francisco 49ers (@MrBLloyd) - Lloyd did not participate in the 49ers 24-13 loss against the Oakland Raiders.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts (@VontaeDavis) - Davis did not play due to a concussion he suffered last week.

Hugh Thornton, OL, Indianapolis Colts (@HughThornton72) - Thornton missed his second game with a knee injury. The Colts beat the Browns 25-24.
