Howdy Illini Fans!
This past week our team travelled to Boerne, Texas (near San Antonio) to play at the Tapatio Resort Golf Course in a tournament hosted by Texas State. It was a very unique/fun tournament and great way to end the fall season. After an early practice round the first day, we then went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas compliments of the tournament. All of us had a blast going on the rollercoasters and even Coach Slone joined us for one--the Poltergeist! Following Six Flags we attended the tournament welcome dinner and party where we got 2 AWESOME surprises. First we were surprised by a big Illini frosted cake sitting in the center of the table, and since we are all sweets lovers on this team, we probably would have been satisfied with just that ;) But, the biggest surprise came when Jim West had us unzip a suitcase after dinner. It was filled with Ipad minis for everyone on the team!...I know, we are quite lucky/spoiled girls :P Needless to say, the tournament could not have started off on any better of a note than that. Following that we were entertained by a terrific band from Las Vegas.
As for the golf portion (the important part), we started off the tournament in pretty good position, 7th out of 12 teams but only 12 shots off first place, with Dana leading our team with 74. Then, due to potential bad weather, we carted 36 holes the 2nd day and all had some very good highlights to our rounds. Stephanie Miller led the team on day 2 shooting 69,76 and placing T-10th overall as an individual. Our team finished 8th of 12. Though it was not our best performance, it was a great learning opportunity and great experience to play outside of the Midwest on a different type of golf course.
The final day we had the opportunity to walk along the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio and enjoy the beautiful Texas weather for the 4th day in a row. I am sure everyone is already excited to travel back to this tournament next year. Sadly I will not be coming back though since it was my last time playing for the Illini as I graduate in December. It sure was a great way to end my collegiate career and I have high hopes for the team to continue to improve and play amazing this upcoming spring season.
Thanks for reading y'all!
Go Illini!
