NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - Head coach Renee Slone's team brought home their second title in as many tournaments after winning three rounds of match play at the Hoosier Fall Invitational. On the final day of the Hoosier Fall Invitational the Fighting Illini squared off against Fresno State for the championship of the match play style event.
With the second round of Saturday's match play suspended due to darkness the Illini took to the course early Sunday morning to determine the winner against top-seeded Indiana. Illinois had three matches to finish and needed just one victory to advance to the championship match to face #4 seed Fresno State.
Samantha Postillion birdied the 22nd hole to top Indiana's Elizabeth Tong while Chayanid Prapassarangkul topped Maria Mancini in 18 holes. Stephanie Miller fell to the Hoosiers' Ana Sanjuan on the 19th hole. Illinois topped the #1 seeded host, Indiana to advance to the championship showdown.
In the championship the Illini won four out of five match ups against Fresno State to bring home the championship. Postillion topped Hannah Sodersten. Miller came back from her early loss to top Samantha Spencer. Freshmen Dana Gattone and Jan Prapassarangkul each got a win, topping Madchen Ly and Mimi Ho respectively. Grace Park fell to Fresno State's Guðrún Björgvinsdóttir in the number four spot.
Ball State topped the Hoosiers in the third place match while Illinois State tied Boston College for fifth place. Northern Illinois grabbed the win in the seventh place match over Eastern Michigan.
After two weeks off Slone's unit will head to their final tournament of the fall season from November 2-4 in Boerne, Texas.
