NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - Head coach Renee Slone’s unit had three matches left to finish against the host, Indiana, when play was suspended due to darkness. The three matches are set to play at 7:30 a.m. (CST) to determine the placements for the final round of match play slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
The Illini matched up against six-seeded Boston College in the morning round and went on to win 3-2. Samantha Postillion, Stephanie Miller and Grace Park picked up victories over Boston College’s Christina Wang, Jocelyn Chia and Katie Barrand respectively. Dana Gattone and Chayanid Prapassarangkul were bested by Cristina McQuistion and Katia Joo.
In the second round of the day the Illini faced off against the top seeded Indiana Hoosiers. Gattone and Park were both able to turn in victories before play was suspended due to darkness. Through 20 holes Postillion is even with Indiana’s Elizabeth Tong. After 18 holes wasn’t enough, Stephanie Miller and Ana Sanjuan will continue competition tomorrow morning along with Prapassarangkul and Maria Mancini who were through 17 holes with Chayanid up by one.
If any of the three Illini who are set to finish their matches in the morning win, the Illini will face fourth seeded Fresno State in the championship match. A loss would pair Illinois against #7 Ball State for third place honors.
