NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - At the mixed played style Hoosier Fall Invitational the Fighting Illini shot a 302 on the opening day to earn the third seed heading into Saturday’s match play competition. Head coach Renee Slone’s unit sits at +14 and is slated to face sixth-seeded Boston College tomorrow with an 8:20 a.m. (CST) tee-time.
Stephanie Miller turned in an even-par round to put her in a tie for second place overall. Dana Gattone carded a 75 (+3) to put her tied for 10th overall. Samantha Postillion turned in a +4 stroke play round to sit tied at 12th. Chayanid Prapassarangkul and Grace Park shot rounds of 79 and 80 respectively and currently sit in ties for 23rd and 28th.
Competing individually for the orange and blue are Pimploy Thirati and Emily Joers. Thirati is currently tied at 17th after shooting a round of 78. Joers is tied with Park at 28th with a score of 80.
Saturday will feature the match play format that is used in the NCAA postseason. Third seeded Illinois will take on #6 Boston College. At 8:20 Postillion will commence battle against BC’s Christina Wang. Ten minutes later Gattone will take on Cristina McQuiston followed by Miller versus Jocelyn Chia, Park against Barrand and Prapassarangkul taking on Katia Joo at 10-minute intervals.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. #1 Indiana will meet #8 Northern Illinois. Match three will feature #2 Eastern Michigan squaring off against #7 Ball State and the final morning matchup will be #4 Fresno State against #5 Illinois State.
The winner of the Indiana-Northern Illinois match will take on the victor of the Illinois versus Boston College contest at 12:30 p.m. At 1:20 either Eastern Michigan or Ball State will face off against the Fresno State-Illinois State match.
Win or lose the Illini are guaranteed to see action both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
