CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The first day of action from the Atkins Tennis Center of the University of Illinois campus is a wrap. Pre-qualifying singles were played all day with the field of 64 competitors reduced to 16 by nightfall.
Host-school, Illinois, accounts for four of the 16 remaining players including Madie Baillon, Julia Jamieson, Jerricka Boone and Jade Hilton.
Four teams have a pair of players remaining including Wisconsin, DePaul, Eastern Michigan and Notre Dame. Representing the Badgers are Sydney Rider and Lauren Burich. Rebeca Mitrea and Jarret Fisher remain for DePaul. Eastern Michigan’s Maria Paula Ribero and Ani Gogvadze remain in the pre-qualifier as do Molly O’Koniewski and Allison Miller.
Still competing in the pre-qualifier for the Buckeyes is Grainne O’Neill. Another Big Ten team, Michigan State, will return Lexi Baylis in search of a main draw slot. Alexa Brandt of Bradley and Dominika Lackova from Youngstown State are still competing as well.
Action on Friday will commence at 9:00 a.m. with the pre-qualifier round of 16. The doubles draw is slated to begin in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m. with the second round to follow.
