NCAA Rotation Schedule | NCAA Championship Central | Regional Recap
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA announced on Monday the team and individuals that have advanced to compete for the 2013 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships, as well as the session and rotation draw. The Fighting Illini will be competing in the first of two semifinal sessions on Friday, April 19 at Noon (PT) and following the Olympic order by starting on vault. Hosted by UCLA, Nationals will be held at the Pauley Pavilion April 19-21.
The Orange and Blue booked their trip to California by securing a second place finish at the Morgantown Regional this past Saturday night. Illinois scored a 196.025 to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third time ever in program history and the third time in the past five years. The Illini beat out fellow Big Ten foe Nebraska (195.875) as Michigan took the Regional crown (196.725). Senior Alina Weinstein helped lift Illinois when she became the first Illini to win three regional crowns (BB, FX, AA).
The women's gymnastics championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors from each of the six regionals have advanced to the national championships.
The process for determining rotation pairings for day one of the team competition at the site of the finals is based on a National Qualifying Score (NQS) calculated by adding the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to the score achieved at regional competition.
Once the NQS is calculated, teams are ranked based on the NQS from 1 to 12. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 were placed in Group A; and teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 placed in Group B.
