Saturday marked the start of the third stop in a two-week span for the Illinois women's golf team, at the 14-team Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan.
For the third-consecutive tournament, redshirt sophomore Samantha Postillion has led the way for the Illini. This time she also is joined by fellow redshirt sophomore, Jacqueline Calamaro. After two rounds of play, Postillion (75-81) and Calamaro (76-80) posted the same 36-hole scores of 14-over-par (156), and are currently tied for 12th place on the par-71, University of Michigan Golf Course.
At the close of today, Illinois sits in fifth place with a team score of 629. The Illini have displayed consistency in their first two rounds, shooting a 314 in the first round and a 315 in the second. Host Michigan closed out the day with a score of 616, holding a one-stroke lead over Florida International (617). Eastern Michigan (623) and Xavier (627) make up the remaining top four teams currently ahead of the Illini
Illinois sophomore Michelle Mayer is just behind the two teammates ahead of her, as she completed 36 holes at 16-over-par (158) and is currently tied for 17th in the 88-player field. Rounding out the Illini lineup includes Ember Schuldt, who is tied for 21st place (160) and Pimploy Thirati, who is tied for 35th (164).
Florida International's Meghan MacLaren (+6), Michigan's Lauren Grogan (+7) and Eastern Michigan's Alyssa Kwon (+8) make up the top-three leaders through 36 holes.
The third and final round of the Wolverine Invitational will be held Sunday.
