FRENCH LICK, Ind. - The Illinois women's golf team completed the second round of the 2012 Big Ten Championships Saturday, carding a 300 (+12). The Illini are tied with Purdue for fourth place with an overall score of 604 (+28). Michigan State (590) leads the 12-team field, with Ohio State (595) and Michigan (599) rounding out the top three.

"We always have to play position golf on this course," head coach Renee Slone said. "It seems like we did a pretty good job of that for the most part. We gave ourselves a number of birdie opportunities, but unfortunately just didn't capitalize on a number of them. That was a combination of just being a bit tentative and not committing. Tomorrow one thing we're really looking to do is just trusting ourselves, trusting each shot and committing to that.""

Senior Nora Lucas (147) leads the Illini individually and is tied for sixth place after shooting a 75 (+3) in the second round, just four shots back of first. Senior Hailey Koschmann (148) posted a 2-under par 70 in the second round and is one stroke behind Lucas in a tie for 10th place. Senior Katelin Dilger (154) is tied for 26th place after carding a 77 (+5) in the second round.

Sophomore Ember Schuldt (155) trails her teammate by one stroke after posting a 78 (+6) to finish day two in a tie for 31st. Senior Samantha Sloan (158) and freshman Michelle Mayer (158) each shot a 79 (+7) in the second round and are tied for 39th place. Michigan State's Lindsey Solberg (143) is in first place, with teammate Caroline Powers (145) and Ohio State's Rachel Rohanna (145) tied for second.

"There were a few big numbers again today, and this is a golf course where sometimes you just have to take your medicine," Slone said. "If you shoot a bad shot, you shoot a bad shot, but then secure no more than bogey. You need to move on to the next hole because you have plenty of more opportunities to come."

The third and final round of the Big Ten Championships starts at 7 a.m. CT on Sunday. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com while a recap of the second round can be found on fightingillini.com.
