CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois men's track and field team will compete at the Eastern Illinois University Big Blue Classic with events starting today through Saturday, March 31. The meet begins with the decathlon at 11:30 a.m. and ends with the 4x400m on Saturday. A full schedule of competition can be found above.

"We're excited to travel an hour to the meet this weekend," head coach Mike Turk said. "We will pretty much bring a full squad to this meet. The competition will be a lot different than what we're used to running against, however the competition will still be there though and we're all excited to get another meet under our belts on a fast track like this one."

Senior Tim Gaumer will lead junior Steve Monte and freshman Corey Hammon in the decathlon while freshman Brandon Stryganek will lead the Illinois charge in the 100m dash, holding the third-best time in the Big Ten of 10.59. Stryganek will also join three other Illini in the 200m while freshman D.J. Zahn and Maurice Watkins will be the two to compete in the 400m.

In the 800m, junior Malcolm Taylor will be joined by sophomore Zebo Zebe and freshman Josh Jones. Senior Nathan Bohne will run the 1,500m as well as the 5,000m along with junior Hunter Mickow. The trio of Nic Haab and Shawn Ledbetter along with freshman Gary Ford will compete in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles.

In the field events, Davis Fraker looks to set another school record as the freshman competes in the shot put and hammer throw. Other Illini to watch include junior Josh Hodur in the pole vault, Ford in the long jump, and senior Brett Einbecker in the discus.

Full results and a recap following the completion of the meet can be found on fightingillini.com. Next week, Illinois will travel south to Baton Rouge, La., to compete at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU.
