ST. GEORGE, Utah - After 36 holes on Monday at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club, the Illinois women's golf team sits in fifth place at the BYU Entrada Classic with a two round total of 616 (+40). The Illini opened the tournament with a 309 and improved by two strokes in the afternoon with a 307. Senior Hailey Koschmann led the Illini on day one and is tied for second individually.

"We had our moments where things were going well, but unfortunately we had too many big numbers," head coach Renee Slone said. "It is difficult to overcome those, so sometimes you just really need to value the bogey. You need to take the bogey and move on to the next hole. We hope to utilize that strategy a little more tomorrow and finish on a high note."

Koschmann fired the tournament's second-best score in the opening round with an even-par 72 and followed it up with a 76 in round two. The Lake Forest, Ill., native sits at 148 (+4), just two shots back of leader Kelsey Vines (146) of Oklahoma State. She rolled in three straight birdies to start the back nine in the morning and carded seven birdies on the day.

"Hailey wasn't feeling that well today, but she was able to grind it out and is still in the mix at the top of the leaderboard," Slone said. "She played some really solid golf, but did wear down a little bit on the final nine. She will get a good night of rest and be ready to go for the final round tomorrow."

Senior Nora Lucas and sophomore Ember Schuldt are tied for 16th at 155 (+11). Lucas began the day with a 79 and shot three strokes better with a 76 in the afternoon. Schuldt notched rounds of 78 and 77, respectively. Senior Katelin Dilger also ranks among the top 25, as she sits tied for 25th at 158 (+14) following rounds of 80 and 78. Junior Crystal Smith is tied for 51st at 165 (+21), while redshirt freshman Jacqueline Calamaro competed as an individual and is tied for 48th at 164 (+20).

"This golf course is great preparation for some courses we will see later this spring when we go to Ohio State and French Lick," Slone said. "It is such a placement course, so playing smart golf is an absolute must."

Texas State (600) owns a 12-shot lead over second-place No. 12 Oklahoma State (612), which the Illini trail by just four strokes. Cal State Fullerton and Nebraska are tied for third at 613.

The third and final round of the BYU Entrada Classic begins on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com while a recap of the final round can be found on fightingillini.com.
