ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Illinois women's golf team will continue spring competition next week when they travel to St. George, Utah, for the BYU Entrada Classic on March 19-20. The event will be held at the par-72, 6,109-yard Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club course. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 holes Tuesday, with a start at 9:30 a.m. CT on Monday.
"Lots and lots of putting," head coach Renee Slone said regarding what the team has been working on this week. "That was an area that we really wanted to spend a lot of time on. The greens out in Utah are a little bit on the bigger side with some tiers."
BYU will host the 13-team field, which includes Cal State Fullerton, Nebraska, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Arizona, No. 12 Oklahoma State, Southern Utah, Texas State, UVU, Weber State and Wyoming.
Competing in the event will be seniors Nora Lucas, Hailey Koschmann, and Katelin Dilger, junior Crystal Smith, and sophomore Ember Schuldt. Redshirt freshman Jacqueline Calamaro will be competing as an individual. The Illini participated in this tournament last season, where they tied for fourth out of 15 teams. Koschmann placed second individually.
"It does help that they've seen this course," Slone said. "Especially for this particular golf course because there are quite a few holes that require smart play. Having seen the golf course and knowing what to expect, it's just really about putting yourself in position."
Last weekend Illinois competed in the Eagle Landing Invitational and placed fifth out of 18 teams. Senior Katelin Dilger, who was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for the first time in her career, led the Illini, carding a 221 (+5) and placing in a tie for 13th overall.
