CARY, N.C. - The Illini women's tennis team tallied three singles victories Friday in its first day of action at the Duke Fab Four Invitational. Junior
Rachael White, sophomore
Allison Falkin and freshman
Melissa Kopinski each secured solid wins for the Orange and Blue in day one of the three-day event.
White, a 2011 first-team All-Big Ten honoree, captured a quick 6-1, 6-3 sweep over Duke's Monica Gorny, while Allison Falkin also picked up a straight-set victory, defeating Mississippi's Caroline Rohde-Moe, 7-5, 6-4. Kopinski added a singles win of her own, as the Illini newcomer claimed a walkover victory over North Carolina's Zoe De Bruycker, who is currently No. 6 in the Campbell's/ITA preseason rankings. Senior and second-team All-Big Ten selectee Amy Allin could not pull off the upset, however, as she fell to No. 25 Anna Bartenstein of Miami, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, Illini duo Kopinski and Falkin defeated Rohde-Moe and Julia Jones, 8-3, before falling to Purdue tandem Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt, 8-5.
