Musco Twilight Results
IOWA CITY - The Illinois men's track and field team competed under the lights on Saturday night at Iowa's Musco Twilight meet, capturing a pair of individual event titles on the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track. Junior Andrew Riley tied for the top spot in the 100m with a time of 10.61 and senior Jeremy Stevens won the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best mark of 9:11.33.
"It was another tough weekend for weather, but I was pleased with the effort," interim head coach Mike Turk said. "Jeremy ran a great steeplechase which was a great contribution from the fifth-year senior. Our 100m and 1,500m guys had solid races, and our pole vaulters are also very close to breakthrough performances. We were a little banged up and had to pull out of the 4x400m relay and take Riley out of the hurdles because of a sprained ankle, so we are just looking to get healthy."
Junior Stanley Azie tallied a pair of top-three finishes, coming in second in the 200m (21.35) and third in the 100m (10.68). Juniors Kyle Engnell (3:50.06) and Colin Mickow (3:50.95) went two-three in the 1,500m while sophomore Ryan Lynn was sixth in the 800m at 1:52.01. Sophomore Tom Achtien was third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:20.43, and the Illini 4x100m relay squad also came in third with a mark of 41.62.
Freshman Matthew Bane led the pole vault crew with a fifth-place finish following a mark of 16-0 ¾ (4.90m) while junior Alex Baldwin, sophomore Joshua Hodur and freshman Cody Klein each cleared 15-7 (4.75m). Sophomore Ryan Michel placed fifth in the high jump with a season-best mark of 6-6 ¾ (2.00m).
A tape-delay broadcast of the meet will air on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, May 8 at 6 p.m. CT. Bernie Guenther and Craig Virgin were on the call while Christina Meister reported from the field.
