The Illinois (908) women’s golf team wrapped up the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational on Sunday, finishing with a final round 16-over par 304. The Orange and Blue concluded the tournament, held at the par-72, 6,282-yard Eagle Landing at Oakleaf Plantation, in seventh out of 18 teams. Junior Hailey Koschmann (222) led all Illini scores, carding a final round three-over par 75 and finished in a tie for 12th.

“We did not move in the direction that we wanted to today,” head coach Renee Slone said. “We did not have four solid scores and conditions were great again today. The course was set up well for scoring and we simply just didn’t get the job done. ”

Junior Samantha Sloan (226) shot her best round of the tournament and the lowest final round for the Illini, carding a third round two-over par 74 to end the invitational in a tie for 26th. Sloan led all players in pars for the tournament, finishing with 41 pars out of the 54 holes played. Freshman Ember Schuldt (229) finished in a tie for 37th after shooting a six-over par 78 in the final round. Rounding out the Illini were junior Katelin Dilger (233), finishing with a third round seven-over par 79, and sophomore Crystal Smith (236), who shot her second-consecutive five-over par 77 in the final round.

No. 34 Chattanooga (859) won their second tournament of the spring season, finishing 33 strokes ahead of runner-up East Carolina (892). Rounding out the top five were Campbell (894), South Florida (903) and Miami (903). Christine Wolf (209) of Chattanooga took home medalist honors after setting both the single-round and 54-hole tournament record.

“I really want us to focus on 100 yards and in and getting the ball in the hole,” Slone said on what the team will be working on before their next tournament. “It’s just really making some putts, making some birdies. Every round you are going to have mistakes, but we just haven’t had made enough birdies to really counteract those mistakes and it’s hard.”

The Illini will take a week off before traveling during spring break to St. George, Utah, for the BYU Entrada Classic on March 21-22.
