Live Scoring
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Play was suspended at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic on Monday midway through the second round due to heavy rain. Teams have completed approximately 27 holes, and the Illini are in second place after posting a first round score of 308 (+20) and shooting six-over par when the second round was suspended. The Illini (+26) trail leader Campbell (+17) by nine strokes with a round and a half left to be played at the par-72, 6,012-yard Keith Hills Country Club on Tuesday.
"We really didn't have to deal with the weather too much," head coach Renee Slone said. "It was a little chilly this morning, but we've seen that several times before. We were moving right along, and then at about the start of the second 18 holes, it started to get overcast and sprinkle just a little bit. But then it started coming down with a pretty steady rain, and the greens just could not handle the water."
All five Illini are currently placed in the top-20, with senior Hailey Koschmann leading the way. After a first round 75 (+3) and shooting two-over par half way through the second round, the Lake Forest, Ill. native is tied for fourth place. Senior Samantha Sloan was shooting even par through eight holes when play was suspended, and is tied for sixth place after posting a 78 (+6) in the first round.
Senior Katelin Dilger and sophomore Ember Schuldt are currently tied for 15th. Schuldt carded a 76 (+4) in the first round and was five-over par midway through the second round, while Dilger posted a first round 79 (+7) and was two-over par when play was suspended. Redshirt freshman Jacqueline Calamaro is tied for 19th after tallying a first round 80 (+8), and was shooting two-over par in the second round.
Campbell's Teresa Urquizu and Old Dominion's Samantha Morrell are currently tied for first place at three-over par.
"In the first round, there was some good play where we made some birdies, but then we also had some rough spots," Slone said. "Things were looking much better this afternoon with a lot more consistent play. We want to finish the second round strong and then hopefully climb back into position where we have an opportunity to vie for the championship in the third round."
The final 27 holes will resume with a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday.
