Diamond Notes #7: The Secret to Big Ten Bus Trips

April 9, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Hey Illini Fans,

After splitting our mid-week games against Bradley and Missouri, we are back on the road for a Big Ten series at Iowa. We're currently in a stretch of five games on the road in six days, with the one off day being a travel day to Iowa City.

On Wednesday night, we were able to experience the thrill of playing in a major league stadium. Growing up a Cardinal fan, it was a dream come true to step out onto the field of Busch Stadium. Coach Hartleb decided to take everyone on the trip so the entire team could take advantage of this special opportunity. The game didn't end up going as we would've liked, but the experience is something I will remember forever.

Now that we're starting the portion of our schedule where longer bus rides are common, I thought I would take a minute to write about how guys pass the time. A lot of guys will sleep, while others will listen to music. Some of the more studious members of the team will productively take advantage of the time and catch up on some schoolwork.

As for myself, I usually just watch the movie that is being played. On the trip to St. Louis, we watched a couple of comedies: "Major League" and "Major Payne." Yesterday, we watched "The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Surpremacy" for a more suspenseful atmosphere.

That's all for this week's edition. As always feel free to send suggestions, questions or comments to illinidiamondnotes@gmail.com
