PINEHURST, N.C. - The Illinois women's golf team heads into Tuesday's final round of the Pinehurst Challenge in 12th place in the 18-team event held at the Pinehurst #6 course in Pinehurst, N.C. The Illini shot a 36-hole total of 615, with sophomore Samantha Sloan leading the way for the Illini at +7 with rounds of 75-76.
After the first round of the Challenge Illinois was sitting at 11th place after a team total of 307. Sophomore Hailey Koschmann shot a nine-over par with rounds of 77-76 and is tied for 38th going into the final round.
No. 20 Florida State leads the field at +1, 18 strokes in front of 2nd place teams Maryland and Campbell University. North Carolina State and James Madison University, both +22, round out the top five.
Illinois sophomore Nora Lucas (+13) is tied for 57th after rounds of 78-79 to finish at 13-over par, while junior Raquel Hopton recorded rounds of 77-81 and is one stroke back from Lucas at 14-over par. Rounding out the Illini is sophomore Kaitlyn Wampler, who shot a two round score of 163 after rounds of 86-77.
