EIU Friday Night Special Schedule
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - With the Big Ten Indoor Championships just over a week away, the Illinois women's track and field team is hard at work in preparation for the conference meet, but will send a small group of athletes to the EIU Friday Night Special on Feb. 19 in Charleston, Ill. The athletes traveling to Big Tens will not compete this weekend, while those athletes heading to Eastern Illinois will begin competition with field events at 2 p.m. and running events at 3 p.m.
"This meet is an opportunity for our younger athletes to gain experience," head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said. "Our athletes on the Big Ten roster will continue to train hard to get ready for next week's meet, while some of our other athletes have a chance to compete at Eastern this weekend."
Six distance runners, two pole vaulters and two triple jumpers make the short trip to Lantz Fieldhouse. In the 800m, freshmen Kendra Kennedy, Meagan Hynes and Mary Sullivan will compete, while junior Maggie Mulchrone, and freshmen Courtney Yaeger and Kelsey Seiler will run the 3,000m. Junior Kaitlin Vicari eyes a new personal best in the pole vault along with freshman Maria Scheet, and junior Kelly Washington and freshman Kristin Morrison will take part in the triple jump.
Live stats will be available at eiurunning.com, while full results and a recap can be found on fightingillini.com following the meet. Next week, Illinois heads to State College, Pa., for the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28.
