CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -
Illinois women's golf coach Renee Slone announced the signing of Michelle Mayer (Flossmoor, Ill. / Homewood-Flossmoor HS) to a National Letter of Intent Thursday. Mayer will join the Fighting Illini for the 2011-2012 season.
“Michelle is an amazing athlete,” head coach Renee Slone said. “This is evidenced by her being named the Chicago Sun-Times Female Athlete of the Year for her accomplishments in both golf and water polo. This athleticism will serve her well as she transitions from the junior level to college golf. Her stamina and endurance levels will be an asset, especially on the 36 hole days. With her time divided between both golf and water polo, we feel she had just scratched the surface of her golf talent. Her length is a strength and we look forward to assisting her further develop her skills. Having been a key member of a very successful high school team, she understands the importance of team chemistry and the role each team member had. She had player junior golf with a number of our current teams members and will add to our team dynamic.”
