Lady Northern Rounds 1-2 Team & Player Scores

GLENCOE, Ill. -

The Illinois (610) women's golf team is tenth at the Lady Northern Invitational after two rounds at the par-72 6,303-yard Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The Illini had rounds of 307-303 and is +35 in the 12 team event. The tournament, which features 10 Big Ten teams and two others, is held each year at the site of the Big Ten Championship. Freshman Ember Schuldt (148) is tied for 18th at four-over par after a first round 77 and a second round 71.

"Today was certainly not our best at all," head coach Renee Slone said. "We've got a lot to do tomorrow, so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day."

Schuldt had seven birdies on the day, with four coming in her one-under par 71 second round. Junior Samantha Sloan (151) tallied rounds of 77-74, with her two-over par second round featuring 15 pars and three bogeys. Sloan is currently in a tie for 36th.

Junior Hailey Koschmann (154) is tied for 44th after shooting rounds of 77-77 and is ten-over par. Juniors Maureen Liddy (161) had rounds of 76-85 and is 17-over par, and Nora Lucas (162) shot two rounds of 81 and is 18-over par. Senior Raquel Hopton (165), competing individually, scored rounds of 83-85 and is 21-over par.

"Ember's 71 was a solid round today and much needed for us this afternoon to keep our team total low," Slone said of her freshman's play. "Hopefully she can use this as a big boost to her confidence for the rest of the season."

No. 6 Purdue leads the tournament at -4 and is the only team under par. No. 21 Ohio State is eight strokes back in second at +4, followed by No. 47 Northwestern at +10.

"For us, we need four solid scores posted tomorrow," Slone said. "Just put together four solid scores and that's it. It's pretty simple. Unfortunately I think we tend to make it more complicated then it is. It's really not, just going out there and playing solid golf."

The third and final round of the Lady Northern Invitational will be using tee times on Tuesday with Hopton starting off the Orange and Blue at 8:24 a.m. and Schuldt the final Illini off the tee at 9:09 a.m. For a full recap of Tuesday's round check fightingillini.com and for live action visit golfstatresults.com.
