The rainy, windy Lady Northern Invitational concluded on Monday as the 15-team field completed the second and third and final rounds at the par-72 6,246-yard University Ridge Course. Illinois (916) carded a second round 306 followed by final round 310, to finish the event in ninth place.

"We got off to a solid start yesterday," head coach Renee Slone said. "We just weren't able to sustain it. Our second-round score was disappointing considering there were so many good scores posted. The great thing about this tournament is we put ourselves in a good position. We just need to sustain it through all three rounds. Each tournament is a learning experience."

Sophomore Kaitlyn Wampler led the Illini with second and final round scores of 75 and 76 to finish out the tournament with a three-round total of 227, placing her in a tie for 23rd. Followed closely behind Wampler was sophomore Samantha Sloan (228) with rounds of 74-76-78 to finish in a tie for 27th, one stroke behind Wampler.

Sophomore Hailey Koschmann (232) fired final two rounds of 81 and 75 to finish in a tie for 37th. Sophomore Maureen Liddy (239) tailed a second round 79 and a final round 86 to end the tournament in a tie for 63rd place. Junior Raquel Hopton (240) finished with a final two rounds of 77 and 81 to place 66th. Sophomore Nora Lucas (247) recorded final two round scores of 78 and 83.

"We're definitely moving in the right direction," Slone said. "If each player can improve by just one shot a day, we'll right there. There are a number of things we can work on and we want to take the next few days of practice to address those and be ready to go this coming week at Northwestern."

Purdue (865) took the team title, finishing 13 strokes ahead of second place teams Ohio State (878) and Michigan State (878). Northwestern (889) and Iowa State (891) rounded out the top five.

Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlance took medalist honors with a 6-under 210, three strokes ahead of teammate Junthima Gulyanamitta (213).

Up Next: Illinois will head to the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Glenview, Ill., on Oct. 5-6.
