CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After earning two All-America honors for the Illini in 2009, freshman Andrew Riley will compete in another national meet this weekend, as he heads to his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica for the Jamaica National Senior Championships. The championships will take place from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28 at National Stadium, with Riley competing in the 110m hurdles on Sunday.
Riley will be racing for a chance to represent Jamaica on the national circuit this summer. The Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) will be selecting national teams for the World Championships in Berlin, Germany from August 15-23, the Caribbean Games from July 13-18 and the CAC Senior Championships in Cuba from July 3-5. Selection to the meets will be based on finishes at the Jamaica National Senior Championships as well as athletes' past performances.
Riley owns a personal-best time of 13.61 in the 110m hurdles from this season's Drake Relays, which was a wind-aided performance by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) standards. Therefore, he enters the Jamaica National Senior Championships with a seed time of 13.74 that ranks fifth in the country.
