COLUMBUS, Ind. - On the final day of the Indiana Invitational, Illinois (972) posted a final round 328 at the par-72 6,179-yard Otter Creek Golf Club to finish in 10th place. Freshman Samantha Sloan (240) competed as an individual and tied for 23rd after a final round 81.
"Conditions were rather challenging throughout the tournament," head coach Renee Slone said. "Players were faced with a variety of different weather factors, so conditions were tough, but it gave our players another opportunity to test their game in those types of situations. They learned how to make the necessary adjustments, which will help them in the future."
Freshman Hailey Koschmann tallied the Illini's low round of the day with her second consecutive 77 of the tournament. The Lake Forest, Ill., native tied for 50th after shooting the best Illini score for the second straight round.
"Hailey played really solid golf over her last two rounds," Slone said.
Senior Nancy Featherstone (241) notched the highest finish for the Illini, tying for 27th after a final round 83. The Franklin, Ill., native led the team for the first time this season and was followed by freshman Nora Lucas (244). Lucas turned in a round of 85 on Tuesday and tied for 35th, while fellow freshman Kaitlyn Wampler (248) tallied a final round 83 and tied for 48th. Freshman Abby Cotter (257) tied for 64th after a final round 87.
UNLV (931) won the team title by 13 strokes thanks to a final round 305. Iowa State (944) finished in second, while Texas (948) took third and two Big Ten teams, Michigan (952) and Wisconsin (956), rounded out the top five of the 14-team field.
Natasha Krishna (225) of UNLV earned individual medalist honors, edging the field by four strokes after a final round 76.
Various forms of precipitation and cold winds made playing conditions difficult throughout the tournament. The average round score for the entire tournament was 82.65, nearly 11 strokes over par.
Up Next: Illinois returns to action on April 18-19 for the Lady Buckeye Invitational, the team's final tune-up before the Big Ten Championship.
"We are looking forward to tackling the Scarlet Course at Ohio State in a week and a half," Slone said.
