Badger Invitational Final Results
VERONA, Wis. - The Orange and Blue wrapped up the Badger Invitational in ninth place with a 54-hole total of 932 at the par-72 6,216-yard University Ridge Golf Course. The Illini carded a final round 313, led by Samantha Sloan's 1-over 73. No. 13 California (889) earned the team title, finishing 13 strokes ahead of host Wisconsin (902).
"We need to work on getting four solid scores each round," head coach Renee Slone said. "Those big numbers have been a problem for the team. If they make mistakes, they need to find a way to salvage a bogey, so the main focus of the team will be eliminating those big numbers."
Freshman Hailey Koschmann (224) was the highest finisher for Illinois, tying for 14th after a final round 81. Senior Nancy Featherstone (237) turned in a final round 79 to finish tied for 40th. Freshmen Nora Lucas and Samantha Sloan both turned in 54-hole totals of 239 and finished in a tie for 46th. Lucas carded a final round 81, while Sloan tallied three birdies on the day and fired a 1-over 73. Katelin Dilger (240) tied for 50th after her third straight 80 of the tournament. Kaitlyn Wampler (263) competed as an individual and finished in 71st.
Minnesota (908), College of Charleston (912) and Tulane (915) finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Jessie Gerry of Wisconsin took home medalist honors with a 1-under 215.
"We're going to have to step it up a notch in the coming weeks," Slone said. "We will have some good practice sessions this week and get things going in the right direction as we head to Northwestern for the next tournament."
Up Next: Illinois returns to action on Oct. 6-7 as they head to Evanston, Ill., for the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
