CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Junior Megan Fudge has been selected to compete in the prestigious Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation announced this week. Fudge, who will attempt to reach the singles main draw out of the prequalifying round, also will team up with sophomore Leigh Finnegan in the prequalifying doubles draw of the championships.
Fudge, who carded a 22-12 overall record in 2007-08, begins her 2008 All-American run in the singles prequalfying bracket in a field of 64. In order to advance, the Kaarst, Germany, native will need to string together three straight match wins in prequalifying (Sept. 27-28) and then three more in the qualifying draw (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), to advance to the 32-player main draw bracket (Oct. 2-5).
The tandem of Fudge and Finnegan went 12-13 in the 2007-08 season and will begin their journey in the prequalifying doubles draw of the championships. The duo must string together three wins in prequalifying and three more wins in qualifying before joining the 16-team main draw field.
Before heading to the All-American Championships, the Fighting Illini women kickoff the season when they head to the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo., Sept. 19-21.
