"Today's match was a great way for the team to end the regular season, everyone really stepped up for us today," head coach Brad Dancer said. "From here on out we are going to need everyone to continue to step up their games at Big Ten's and then NCAA's after that."
The Orange and Blue started off the afternoon in convincing fashion by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 8 nationally ranked Illini duo of Billy Heiser and Ryan Rowe took care of business at No.1 doubles with 8-6 win over the No. 46 nationally ranked Iowa tandem of Bart van Monsjou and J.P. Senior Brandon Davis and freshman Waylon Chin, at No. 3 doubles, finished the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision over the Hawkeye duo of Christian Bierich and Austen Kauss.
The Illini continued the domination in singles play. As the intense play of No. 53 nationally ranked Ruben Gonzales (ILL) proved to be too much for Bart van Monsiou (IOWA), with the Illini senior taking a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 1 singles spot.
Playing at No. 2 singles, No. 13 nationally-ranked senior Ryan Rowe continued his winning ways as he downed Christian Bierich (IOWA) in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
