The Fighting Illini football program has enjoyed a generous season ticket sales increase with more than 10,000 new seat holders already on board for the 2007 campaign. The increase is the second-best number recorded nationally, behind only Rutgers University, which has sold more than 12,000 this offseason. No other institution offered a new season ticket number comparable to the increase of Illinois.
"The 10,000 figure is a milestone and a great point of pride for us," Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Sales Chris Hanna said. "Our fans are truly helping to take this program to another level. Memorial Stadium should be electric this fall."
Illinois sold out its horseshoe area with season tickets for the first time in years. Season tickets are now being sold in the horseshoe extensions for $60 each while the limited supply of several hundred lasts. Sideline season tickets are priced at $214. Those locations will remain on sale until kickoff of the first Memorial Stadium home game against Western Illinois on Sept. 8. Fans hoping to claim the best season locations must do so before single-game tickets go on sale July 23.

** The Illinois marketing staff called every NCAA Division I Bowl University that stood a reasonable chance to show a similar gain to learn where each stands in season ticket sales at this point. Schools that are traditionally sold out with season tickets and those that do not sell substantial numbers of season tickets were excluded from the research. An email inquiry was also issued to all NACMA members, which includes marketing professionals from almost every Division I Bowl University.
