Sophomore Lesiba Masheto won a Big Ten title in the 600m on the second and final day of competition at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Bloomington, Ind., on Sunday. As a team, the Orange and Blue finished in tenth place, with 36 team points.
"I thought today we could've had more fight and heart and I'm disappointed," head coach Wayne Angel said. "But, the good thing is that we have outdoors, and that's a great opportunity to redeem ourselves."
Despite a disappointing finish for the Illini, Masheto found a way to shine through for the Illini in the 600m, by grabbing the Big Ten title and also breaking the Illinois indoor school record with a time of 1:16.28, which now ranks him number one in the world.
After placing second in yesterday's long jump competition, junior Nick Brown took fourth-place in the triple jump with a mark of 50'09.00". Additionally, senior Bryan Pratt placed fifth in the 60m hurdles with a 8.01, while the 4x400m relay grabbed another fifth-place finish with a 3:13.14.
