Masheto Leads Illini at Cyclone Classic

Head coach Wayne Angel and the Fighting Illini men's track and field team finished their second day of competition at the Cyclone Classic at the Lied Recreation-Athletic Facility on Saturday. Four Illini posted personal bests in the meet, which was not team scored.

Sophomore Lesiba Masheto ran a personal best time of 46.76 in the 400m to finish second overall in a field of 129 runners. Also entered in the 400m was Junior Scott Puhse, who also tabbed a personal best with a 48.82.

Also posting personal bests on the day were freshman Jared Richardson with 4:11.10 in the mile and junior Matt Ragusa with a 16'01.25" in pole vault.

Senior Maciej Sniegorski placed fifth in the 5000m with a time of 14:36.86.

"I am very pleased with our performance today," Angel said. "We are in great shape for the Big Ten Championships and as a team we are becoming consistent, and this will be important as we approach the NCAA Championships."

The Illini will return to action when they travel to Charleston, Ill., to compete in the EIU Friday Night Invite on Friday, Feb. 16.
