SOUTH BEND, IND. - Senior Meghan Naik and junior Stephanie Mory ended play at the Lady Irish Invitational Sunday taking home top-twenty finishes at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana. Naik, who shot a career-best 73 during second-round play Saturday, carded an 81 to be the top Illini finisher tied for 11th. Fellow Illini Stephanie Mory (T 19) was the top Illini performer in third-round play firing a 74.
"Obviously the weather was a big factor today," said head coach Renee Slone. "It was cold and windy, so a 74 was a very good round for her today."
The UI team took home a 10th place finish overall out of the 14-team field, tying with Wichita State. Saturday's leader the University of Cincinnati (310-306-303=919) took home the tournament title and Bearcat Hillery Wilson (77-69-72=218) took home individual honors.
Other Illini finishers included juniors Seul Ki Park (78-80-83=241) tied for 34th, and Kristine Cook (87-82-90=259) finished in 65th. Sophomore Kelsey O'Neal (90-88-89=267) ended tournament play for Illinois finishing 69th.
The Illini can be seen in action next at their final fall tournament in two weeks (Oct. 9-10) at the Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Indiana.
"We're working on our short game and course management, so it's just a matter of playing a solid four rounds," said Slone. "Seul Ki played well there last year, so it's good to go back to courses you've played well on knowing that heading in."
