Fighting Illini Split Up One More Time

Champaign, Ill. - After spending the last two weeks hosting track meets on their home turf, the Fighting Illini men's track and field team will split up for the second time this indoor season to compete at the Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind.) and the New Balance Invitational (Manhattan, N.Y.) on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.

Head coach Wayne Angel will send his distance squad to South Bend, while his sprinters and field event athletes make their way to New York. Included in the distance group that will compete in South Bend is juniors Jason Bill and Maciej Sniegorski and seniors Tim Hobbs and Trent Hoerr,

The group of sprinters and field specialists that are traveling to New York includes freshman Dominique Worsley and Sean Muldoon, sophomore Nick Brown, juniors Eric Disilvestro and Nathan Vadeboncoeur and seniors Andre English, Abe Jones, Tramell Smith, Adrian Walker and Anthony Young

The Illini are coming off a weekend that saw Tramell Smith break the 600-meter Armory indoor track record (1:17.00) at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic. The 600-meter record was previously held by former Illini Zack Glavash. Illinois finished the meet with a point total of 189 and were 49 points ahead of Alabama (140), their biggest competition of the meet.

Following this weekend's split, the Illini reunite and travel to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Cyclone Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11. The Cyclone Classic will be the final meet before the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Iowa City, Iowa on Feb. 24-26.
